A. Peter BEFORE Jesus’ death and resurrection

Most vocal in promise to die for Jesus (Mt. 26:31-35; Mk. 14:27-31; Lk. 22:33)
Slept when Jesus is in agony (Mt. 26:36-46; Mk.14:37-42; Lk. 22:45-46)
Cuts off Malchus’ (the servant of the High Priest) ear with sword (Mt. 26:51; Mk. 14:47; Lk. 22:49-50; Jn. 18:10-11)
Flees when Jesus is arrested (Mt. 26:56; Mk. 14:50-52)
Follows at a distance (Mt. 26:58; Mk. 14:54; Lk. 22:54; Jn. 18:15-16)
Denies Jesus three times (Mt. 26:69-75; Mk. 14:66-72; Lk. 22:54-62; Jn. 18:17, 25-27)

B. Peter AFTER Jesus’ death and resurrection

Preaches Pentecost sermon (Acts 2:14-41)
Peter and John arrested (Acts 4:1-3) and threatened (Acts 4:21)
Unafraid what will be done to them (Acts 4:8-13, 19-20)
Apostles arrested (5:17-18), almost killed (5:33), but beat them instead (5:40-42)
Church is violently persecuted (8:1b-3) but Peter stays in Jerusalem (8:14)
Peter arrested and supposed to be executed in morning (Acts 12:3-4)
Sleeping soundly night before execution (Acts 12:6)
Rescued by angel in groggy state (Acts 12:7-11)
Writes 1 and 2 Peter
Tells us to be ready to make a defense for our reasonable faith (1 Pet. 3:15)
Reminds us that we don’t follow made up stories or fairy tales (2 Pet. 1:16), but stories about Jesus are real

C. Why the change?

Resurrected Jesus appeared to him (Lk. 24:34, 36-43; Jn. 20:19-25, 26-31; 21:1-25; 1 Cor. 15:5)
Angel that announced resurrection comforts him (Mk. 16:6-7) {Connect Lk. 22:31-32}
Resurrected Jesus recalls him (Jn. 21:15-19)
